Brief rainy update for West Rockville Maryland for Sunday, April 15 2018 and Monday April 16, 2018

I have had a variety of problems, including sleep, the past few days. This report will briefly cover both Sunday and Monday. We had quite a rainstorm overnight Sunday into most of Monday. Temps dropped on Sunday from a high of 72 @ 0000 down to 43.6 @ 2125. On Monday temps remained cool under the rainy, cloudy conditions, with a high of 56.4 @ 0644 down to 42.6 @ 2356. Most of the rain fell early Monday after midnight (2.22″), but it did start to fall just prior to midnight (0.03″). Pressure peaked at 30.06″ at 1112 on Sunday, falling to 29.76″ by midnight for the low for the day, then a storm low was recorded @ 0552 with a 29.47″ reading. Today’s featured image shows some of the stormy stratocumulus overcast looking to the North on my balcony early Monday afternoon, submitted to GLOBE CLOUD observing program at NASA.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.

Overnight Sunday into Monday skies were cloudy and full of rain, falling most all of the overnight, with my NOAA weather radio going off constantly with severe thunderstorm and flood warnings. I don’t have a max rain rate as my VP2 seriously under-reported a grand two day total of only 1.03″, but it appeared a particularly heavy batch occurred between 0200 and 0400 early Monday morning. Tuesday should be cloudy and even cooler with highs in the mid-upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s – outside chance of a snow flurry around believe it or not. Wednesday should start to warm up under mostly sunny skies, with highs in the mid 60s and lows in the upper 40s. Thursday should be mostly cloudy and cooler once again with windy conditions at times with wind chills down in the 30s most of the day, with daytime highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 30s. Friday should be partly cloudy and continued cool, with highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s. Saturday should start warming up some, with highs in the upper 50s under mostly sunny skies and lows in the upper 30s.

As of 0908 Tuesday, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:

Mostly cloudy with 4400 foot ceiling/stratocumulus overcast. and cold

Station Relative Location Temp  RH   DP       BP     Wind High/Low temp Sun-Mon
VP2             Ground           39.2°  61% 27° 29.86″R  NA    72.0/43.6 (Sunday)
                                                                                         56.4/42.6 (Monday)

The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.03″ through midnight Sunday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.03″ through midnight Sunday. The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 2.22″ through midnight Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 1.00″ through midnight Monday.

Sunday’s precipitation was 0.03″
Monday’s precipitation was 2.22″
April precipitation 2.42″
April snowfall 0.0″ (will be reported till the end of April)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 10.59″

WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 38 57 24 29.83″R W 2 G WSW 19
140° from station              57/41 (Monday) NA for Sunday

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.72″ of precipitation on Monday (Sunday NA). It is reporting a total of 1.91″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 12.78″. For some unknown reason it is reporting 0.10″ of rain for today (so far). No rain has fallen since midnight that I know of. I think the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that Lakewood precip values are estimated/adjusted from radar.

At 2400 obs Monday night the temperature from the VP2 was 42.6 RH 67% BP 29.76″R DP 32.4
Cloudy, very cool, drying out at 2400

Good morning from the cloudy, very cool, slowly drying out home of the snowless walrus on this Tuesday. Apartment management came by Monday afternoon and asked if I had any leaking coming through the ceiling during the storm. Thankfully I said no, not that I know of. Not so fortunate were others in the area, esp. those trying to drive through flooded roadways from overspilling creeks and streams. NOAA weather radio kept blaring out warnings into the evening due to the ongoing flooding in certain spots in the region.
