Mostly sunny, colder update for West Rockville Maryland on Sunday, April 8 2018
Sunday was mostly sunny and cold, with a freezing min (31.1°) that may be the last of the season. The Sunday maximum temperature from the VP2 (47.4°) was recorded at 1703 while the Sunday minimum temperature (31.1°) was recorded at 0715. Dew point temperatures remained relativel low all day, ranging from a low of 16° at 1108 up to a high of 23° at 1537. Relative humidity values lowered a bit more today (59% – 32%) . Barometric values started out at their lowest point in the early AM (29.93″ at 0324), then rose the rest of the day – the daily high was reached in the late evening (30.12″ at 2329).Today’s featured image shows off a view to the East I had from my balcony of scattered cumulus in the early afternoon, one of the photo submissions I sent to the NASA GLOBE CLOUD observation program. Today’s cumulus cloud ceiling was at about 7000 feet.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444
I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. The web address for my data on weather underground is: https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=KMDrockv200#history/ I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115 on https://www.cocorahs.org/ Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge. I use the data I post to cocorahs as my “official” precipitation total each day.
Overnight Sunday into Monday skies became cloudy after midnight, with temperatures dropping into the mid 30s to below freezing by sunrise. Monday will remain cloudy and continued seasonably cold with highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 30s with a 60 POP for light morning rain or even possibly a wet snowflake or two. Tuesday looks to warm up a bit, with highs in the low-mid 50s, lows in the low-mid 30s, with mostly sunny skies. Partly cloudy and a bit milder on Wednesday with highs in the mid 50s and lows in the low 40s. Thursday should be partly cloudy with highs in the low 70s and lows in the low 50s. Friday the 13th should be partly cloudy and warmer, with highs around 80° and lows in the upper 50s.
On the channel 4 weather radar website at 0616 shows what looks like a lot of snow just to my west and southwest over central VA and eastern WV, but most of that is not reaching the ground, and what is will be mostly cold light rain later in my immediate area.
As of 0616, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
Cloudy, cold but still dry.
Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp Sunday
VP2 Ground 36.4° 47% 18° 30.21″R NA 47.4/31.1
The total precipitation in the cocorahs gauge was 0.00″ through midnight Sunday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony also recorded 0.00″ through midnight Sunday.
Sunday’s precipitation was 0.00″
April precipitation 0.17″
Sunday’s snowfall was 0.0″
April snowfall 0.0″
Snow on ground 0 (reported to the nearest half-inch)
The seasonal snowfall total is 12.0″.
Year-to-date precipitation total is 8.34″
WX Bug Lakewood 4500 ft, 35 45 16 30.16″R NE 2 G NE 5
140° from station 47/29
The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of precipitation on Sunday. It is reporting a total of 0.39″ of precipitation for April and a 2018 year-to-date (YTD) amount of 11.27″. I think the great disparity between the Lakewood WX Bug station precipitation amount total for the month and year and my cocorahs gauge based data is that Lakewood precip values are estimated from radar.
At 2400 obs Sunday night the temperature from the VP2 was 38.0 RH 46% BP 30.11″R DP 19.1
High clouds, cold, dry at 2400
Good early morning from the cloudy, relatively cold but dry home of the snowless walrus on this Monday.
