Cloudy, cool, damp/foggy, AM light showers, PM drying out update for West Rockville Maryland on Sunday, February 25 2018
Sunday was another cloudy day, a tad milder but still cool, with mostly morning light rain (0.20″ cocorahs gauge total, max rain rate 0.64″/hour @ 0810 from the VP2) and occasional drizzle and fog. The warm front keeps inching northward, keeping our temperatures cooler than expected. The Sunday maximum temperature from the VP2 (52.2°) was recorded at 1639 while the minimum temperature (45.7°) was recorded at 0624. Dew point temperatures stayed around the same as yesterday, ranging from a low of 45° at 0212 up to a high of 52° at 1637. Relative humidity values were quite high again most of the day (98% – 95%). Barometric values dropped more most of the day, ranging from a high of 30.13″ at 0005 down to a low of 29.93″ at 1124.
Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.
I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.
Today was a crazy day where I only took a few catnaps at my computer. I talked with Ray a few times, ordering a book from him from Amazon online, and a book for me called “STORM” by George R Stewart, a classic old book that I remember reading while still going to high school. Ray talked me into it, he loved the book also. Marty called also, and we talked about the recent drought-busting daily rains that have been most beneficial to our local environment. We also talked about SWE, snow density, snow depth, etc. I got a bit more of DC-AMS Chapter Science Fair work done, mostly minor data-base updates and follow-up emails. Time is getting short for the fairs of early March, and I only have a few volunteers lined up so far.
We remained cooler, cloudy, damp/foggy on Sunday, with lesser amounts of rain, only falling in small quantities around 0100 and briefly heavier showers between 0800 and 0830. The afternoon and evening remained cloudy but had no rain. Monday looks like we will have cloudy conditions persisting most of the day, but with a 0 POP for rain all day with highs in the mid 50s and lows around freezing. Tuesday looks sunny with highs in the mid-upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s. Wednesday should turn mostly cloudy, with highs around 60° and lows in the mid 40s. On Thursday rain (90 POP) is expected to return just in time for the monthly changeover from February to March, with high temps in the low 50s and lows in the low 40s. Friday looks colder with windy and showery conditions (70 POP) with high temps in the upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s.
On the Channel 4 weather website at 0415 radar is still showing showers over central VA and points S and W that appear to be staying south of my immediate area, moving ENE.
As of 0415, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
