Cloudy, cool, damp/foggy, occasionally wet/showery update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday, February 24 2018

Saturday was another cloudy day, a tad milder but still cool, with mostly mid-day light rain (0.36″ cocorahs gauge total, Max rain rate 0.56″/hour @ 1136 from the VP2) and then occasional drizzle and fog developing late with dense fog at times overnight into early Sunday morning. The warm front has just been inching northward keeping our temperatures cooler than predicted. The Saturday maximum temperature from the VP2 (50.4°) was recorded at 1458 while the minimum temperature (46.0°) was recorded very early at 0001. Dew point temperatures didn’t vary much, ranging from a low of 45° at 0000 up to a high of 49° at 1141. Relative humidity values were quite high most of the day (98% – 91%). Barometric values dropped significantly all day, ranging from a high of 30.26″ at 0002 down to a low of 30.12″ at 2302.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

I managed to get a few things done throughout the evening, like completing my January 2018 climate summary and statistics and emailing it off to NJWO for WEATHERSHELTER and NJWO Blog publication. I will post it very soon here on weathertogether also.  I got a bit more of DC-AMS Chapter Science Fair work done, mostly minor data-base updates and follow-up emails. Time is getting short for the fairs of early March, and I only have a few volunteers lined up so far. I changed my methodology in sending out a slightly revised/updated “Update 3” message earlier on Sunday afternoon.

We remained cooler, cloudy, damp/foggy all day Saturday, similar to Thursday and Friday, but with a bit more rain. Overnight into Sunday it was particularly foggy, often dense with visibilities as low as 1/4 mile at times. Sunday has been cloudy and wet early, but the rest of the afternoon and evening will remain cloudy but rain-free with a 0 POP for rain, with high temps in the low 50s and lows in the mid 40s. Monday looks like we will have it partly cloudy (AM Clouds/PM Sun) with highs in the mid 50s and lows around freezing. Tuesday looks sunny with highs in the mid-upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s. Wednesday should turn cloudy, with highs in the low 60s and lows in the mid 40s. On Thursday rain (90 POP) is expected to return just in time for the monthly changeover from February to March, with high temps in the mid 50s and lows in the low 40s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 1633 radar is showing showers over central VA that appear to be staying south of my immediate area. Other showers are further to the SW, over parts of the Carolinas and they too are heading more SE and not coming this way.

As of 1633, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
