A cloudy, cool, somewhat wet update for West Rockville Maryland for Thursday November 9 2017

Thursday warmed up a bit, remaining cloudy all day with some unexpected light rain (0.06″), falling mostly in the morning. From the lower 40s in the very early AM we rose to the low 50s by mid-afternoon, then down to the mid 40s by midnight. Cloudy skies have persisted overnight but with cloud ceilings rising so right now we have broken middle to high clouds with sun filtering through early on this Friday morning. Dew points dropped from the high 40s down to the upper 30s. At 0810 we have broken clouds/sun, increasing NW winds as the cold front has definitely passed through the area. Temperatures are in the low 40s with dew points now dropping into the upper 20s. The Thursday minimum temperature from the VP2 (42.0°) was recorded at 0059 while the maximum temperature (51.1°) was recorded at 1506. Dew point temps ranged from 49° down to 38°. Relative humidity values remained high today (97% – 84%). Barometric values lowered some today, ranging from a high of 30.24″ at 0001 down to 30.07″ almost 24 hours later at 2349. Since that time, the barometer has risen considerably, up to 30.26″ at 0810.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.

I had more discussions with Ray dealing with his cocorahs records and his current online status. I continued with my discussions with Ray after dinner, as we watched the Seahawks/Cardinals game on Thursday night football, won by Seattle 22-16.

Friday should be a “game-changer” of a day with falling temps (now occurring) through the 40s and into the 30s by the afternoon with strong NW breezes at times resulting in wind chills dropping into the 20s and teens overnight. We should have clearing skies, with much drier, colder air moving in. A freeze warning has been posted for tonight. Freeze warnings are only posted till freezing temps occur, if you know what I mean. We should be in the low 20s by early Saturday morning along with decreasing winds. Saturday will also have sun with a few scattered clouds around, remaining cold with highs around 40° and lows in the mid-upper 20s. Moderating a bit on Sunday under Sunny skies with a few more scattered clouds once again, with highs in the upper 40s and lows in the mid 30s. Monday should see similar skies and continued slightly moderating temps up into the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s. Tuesday should continue this sky condition and temperature pattern.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0810 radar shows snow shower streamers moving SE from Lakes Erie and Ontario into mostly parts of NY and PA at the present time. Those snow showers will dry up well before they get to our area unfortunately.

As of 0810, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP     BP     Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2           Ground           40.3 60  27  30.24R   NA      51.1/42.0

There was 0.06″ of rain in my cocorahs gauge on Thursday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.05″ of rain through midnight obs on Thursday.

November precipitation is now 1.78″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is now 38.19″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain through midnight on Thursday. It apparently is still clogged and not working properly. However, interestingly enough on my Lakewood CC WX Bug phone app, I noticed this morning that they are now reporting a total of 1.75″ of rain so far this month for a gain of 0.02″ since yesterday, as estimated by radar.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 44.9 RH 97% BP 30.07F DP 44.2. Cloudy but dry at midnight .

Good morning from the partly cloudy, colder, windy and currently dry Walrus early on this Friday.
