A cloudy, colder, wet update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday November 7 2017

Tuesday cooled down quite a bit, right from the warmest temp of the day at midnight, sinking down into the upper 30s just about 24 hours later at Tuesday’s midnight obs time. Rain developed during the cloudy day in the late morning and rain lightly but steadily all afternoon into the early evening (0.95″ – roughly between 1100 and 1900) Temperatures turned cold, mostly in the low 40s all day before dropping into the upper 30s during the later evening hours. Cloudy skies have continued overnight but with no additional rain as temperatures have held in the upper 30s. Dew points dropped from the mid 40s early down to the mid 30s by the later evening hours. At 0813 we have cloudy, dry skies. Temperatures are in the upper 40s with dew points in the mid 30s. The Tuesday minimum temperature from the VP2 (38.5°) was recorded at 2318 while the maximum temperature (52.6°) was recorded at 0000. Dew point temps ranged from 46° down to 36°. Relative humidity values were still high today but dropped a bit from yesterday’s higher readings (96% – 72%). Barometric values actually rose today despite the rain, ranging from a high of 30.23″ at 0835 down to 30.12″ at 1419.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.

I got up in the later afternoon after some wild, crazy dreams that I kept waking up from as they weren’t nice dreams like usual. I had a couple of short conversations with Ray dealing again with his cocorahs records, then a long conversation with Marty about his recent weather conference trip and many other details, including issues with today’s rains and confusing mountain reports to our west and northwest dealing with some frozen precipitation (or lack thereof). I worked on an October data summary for my station, using my monthly output stored in Weather Underground. I can produce a pretty good report with minimal editing in my text editor from the downloaded weather underground file.  My daughter Tracy got back from Las Vegas sometime late this afternoon but I didn’t hear from her – probably major jet lag, no sleep, and no time after landing and trying to get to her regular Tuesday work shift. I do know she had a great time out there, albeit way too short. Weather was very nice for this time of year.

Wednesday will stay cool, with highs staying in the upper 40s, under partly cloudy skies and no chance of rain. Lows be in the upper 30s. On Thursday it should warm up a tad, into the low 50s for highs and lows in the low 30s under cloudy skies. Friday we should see full sun but with the coldest temperatures of the season, highs only in the upper 30s and our first freeze of the season with lows in the low 20s. Saturday will also have sun with some scattered clouds, remaining cold with highs around 40° and lows in the upper 20s. Moderating a bit on Sunday under scattered clouds once again, with highs in the upper-mid 40s and lows in the 30s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0813 radar shows scattered rain showers moving west to east but on a more southerly track that will keep the rain to our south today, over south and central VA and parts of KY and TN.

As of 0813, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP     BP     Wind  High/Low temp Tuesday
VP2             Ground        39.5  88  36 30.28R    NA     52.6/38.5

There was 0.95″ of rain in the cocorahs gauge on Tuesday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 1.03″ of rain on Tuesday, including a max rain rate of 0.61″/hour @ 1310.

November precipitation is now 1.72″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is now 38.13″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain through midnight EDT on Tuesday. It apparently is still clogged and not working properly.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 38.5 RH 95% BP 30.19S DP 37.3. Cloudy but dry at midnight .

Good morning from the cloudy, cool, but dry Walrus early on this Wednesday.
