A partly sunny, dry, warm, and slightly wet weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday August 1 2017

Tuesday ushered in the new month of August with partly cloudy, warm, more humid with a brief light thundershower in the early afternoon. Stronger storms fired up by late afternoon, but were isolated and missed my location for the most part, save for some rumblings of thunder. Now at 0700 we have partly cloudy skies and warmer temperatures in the low  70s, with dew points rising to the upper 60s. The Tuesday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (67.1°) was recorded at 0620 while the maximum temperature (87.4°) was recorded at 1447. Dew point temps rose into  the low-mid 70s as the day progressed, ranging from 64° up to 74°. Relative humidity values were about the same as yesterday (91% – 53%).  Barometric values lowered a bit today, ranging from 30.09″ at 0857 to 30.00″ at 1720.
Remember now you can get the new ground-based VP2 data on Weatherlink.  You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I got up and going by mid-afternoon, preparing for “National Night Out” activities just below my balcony in the area around a now operating fountain and my weather instruments. Plenty of people, the police talking to several people, a jazz band playing popular old tunes, and a nice food spread of paella, hot dogs, fruit, veges, various desserts were plentiful for all those in attendance. I got an Amazon delivery of 60 AA batteries (with all my devices I go through them quickly) while I was outside at the picnic. Festivities wound down around 1900 when the band quit, and I was back up in my apartment by 1930.  I then started in on email and FACEBOOK. I chatted with Ray and Marty about various weather issues, and also face timed with Robin and Gideon and chatted briefly with Tracy also.  Later on I finally had a bit more food, with the remaining chicken crockpot leftovers, and some new potato salads I just got with my latest grocery delivery. I had a few triscuits and cashews even later on.  I also drank lots of water from my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have partly cloudy, dry skies and warm temperatures in the low 70s at 0700. Partly cloudy conditions should be the norm for the rest of the week into the weekend, with highs in the upper 80s through Friday and lows in the upper 60s. Chances for rain look to be only of the isolated variety with POPs of only 20 at best. Saturday and Sunday should cool off into the low 80s and upper 50s.

On Channel 4 radar at 0700, most of the Eastern US appears to be rain-free, save for light showers over parts of Michigan and showers well offshore off the Carolina coast from the remnants of Tropical Depression Emily

As of 0700 EDT, the data from the VP2 is now coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Taylor has been replaced with the Radio Shack thermometer for the time being (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high).  The data from the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are as follows :

Station     Relative Location      Temp    RH    DP         BP        Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2                 Ground                69.5     92    67      30.05S     NA     87.4/67.1

Radio Shack    Balcony               73.8                                                  95.2/70.7

There was 0.03″ of rain recorded today (cocorahs gauge on ground below – in between the US and State Flagpoles out a bit from my balcony)

July precipitation finished out at 9.36″.
August precipitation is 0.03″

Year-to-date (YTD) precipitation total is 26.94″

VP2 Across the street (USG)      71.6    88     68   30.08S     NA        90.1/68.0

There was 0.01″ of water recorded in the USG gauge on Tuesday. This is a delayed reading from weekend rain, as an apparent jam up causes a flow that takes a long time to drain and record. The rain that did fall on Tuesday did not record any further amounts.

WX Bug     Lakewood 4500 ft,      72    79.5   65.1    30.06S   SSW 1  G SSW 4

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded no rain on Tuesday.
