A mostly sunny, dry, and warmer weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday July 31 2017

Monday was a sunny, dry, but increasingly warmer and more humid day with only scattered fair weather cumulus floating around at times. Now at 0650 we have clear skies and somewhat pleasant temperatures in the mid-upper 60s, with dew points rising to the mid 60s. The Monday minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (60.7°) was recorded at 0601 while the maximum temperature (87.2°) was recorded at 1647. Dew point temps rose through the 60s as the day progressed, ranging from 69° to 59°. Relative humidity values rose a bit today (94% – 45%).  Barometric values also raised a bit more today, ranging from 30.12″ at 1039 to 30.04″ at 1811.
Remember now you can get the new ground-based VP2 data on Weatherlink.  You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I got up and going by mid-afternoon, taking a shower and getting ready for a small grocery delivery from Instacart at 1600.  I got everything put away before 1700, and then had a late brunch of cereal, banana and coffee. I then started in on email and FACEBOOK. I chatted at length with Ray about the weather of the just completed month of July, and also went over a few items with Marty over the phone. I cooked a scrumptuous dinner of baked salmon fillets, cheddar broccoli rice a roni with added mushrooms and a nice salad with cucumbers, radishes, spinach mix, mini-tomatoes, cottage cheese, and croutons garnished with asiago peppercorn dressing. Later I had a few triscuits and cashews, and a crunch klondike bar.  I also drank lots of water from my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have clear, dry skies and somewhat pleasant temperatures in the mid-upper 60s at 0650. Sunny to partly cloudy conditions should be the norm for the rest of the coming week, with highs in the mid-upper 80s and lows mostly in the mid-upper 60s. Chances for rain look to be minimal with POPs of only 20 at best for a possible isolated shower/thundershower.

On Channel 4 radar at 0700, the entire US appears to be rain-free, save for showers well offshore from the remnants of Tropical Storm Emily which developed quickly over Florida near the Tampa area late Sunday into early Monday but moved quickly off to the ENE into the Atlantic along with other showers off the SE coast north of Emily’s remains.

As of 0700 EDT, the data from the VP2 is now coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Taylor has been replaced with the Radio Shack thermometer for the time being (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high).  The data from the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are as follows :

Station     Relative Location      Temp    RH    DP         BP        Wind   High/Low temp today
VP2                 Ground                67.2     90    64      30.06S     NA     87.2/60.7

Radio Shack    Balcony               70.9                                                  91.8/68.2

There was no rain recorded today (cocorahs gauge on ground below – in between the US and State Flagpoles out a bit from my balcony)

July precipitation finished out at 9.36″.

Year-to-date (YTD) precipitation total is 26.91″

VP2 Across the street (USG)      68.5     88     65     30.09S     NA      NA/NA

There was 0.01″ of water recorded in the USG gauge on Sunday. This is a delayed reading from the rain over the weekend, as an apparent jam up causes a flow that takes a long time to drain and record. There was no actual rain falling on Monday.

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded no rain on Monday.

Good morning from the clear, dry, somewhat pleasant Walrus early on Tuesday morning. I had to close the windows today and fire up the A/C by mid-afternoon as the temperature warmed on Monday.
