A mostly cloudy (high cloud types) ,milder update for West Rockville Maryland on Friday, February 9 2018

Friday featured a high cloud overcast most of the day, with some light drizzle in the early evening (T) and milder. Temperatures rose up to the lower mid 40s by mid-late afternoon, after one more seasonably cold night in the mid 20s in the early AM. The Friday maximum temperature from the VP2 (43.9°) was recorded at 1626 while the minimum temperature (24.6°) was recorded at 0105. Dew point temperatures rose today, ranging from a low of 20° very early at 0003 up to 34° (much later) at 2329. Relative humidity values rose a bit today (84% – 61%). Barometric values started to lower some most of the day, ranging from a high of 30.59″ at 0853 down to a min of 30.35″ much later at 2358.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

I talked with Ray more about this drought monitor thing and also the “SSW” question that fellow blogger Harry Hayfield passed on to many of you on FB. (SSW stands for Sudden Stratospheric Warming as I found out) I also got my 2017 master spreadsheet data for my home station finished and emailed off to my friend Lowell for further processing. There is a big problem with the 2017 data spreadsheet annual summary page it usually generates because the formulae and data format had not been setup for 2017 at my current location and this may either not be possible to do, or at least take some time to complete.

We were clear and cold overnight Thursday into Friday but with an increase in high clouds later in the night causing the temperatures to rise about 2° from midnight till about 0600, but still basically holding in the mid 20s. Friday featured a high cloud overcast with light drizzle detected in the late afternoon while walking back from Building A over to my apartment in Building B, along with milder temps that reached the lower mid-40s by the later stages of the afternoon. Saturday has been cloudy with rain starting to fall around 1130 (currently 0.13″ in my VP2 gauge at 1420). There now is a 100 POP for rain the rest of the day, with temps holding in the mid 40s through tonight. More rain on Sunday (100 POP) with highs around 60, steady rain mostly in the AM but with the chance for thundershowers in the PM and lows around 40°. There is an areal flood watch in effect now and through most of the weekend. We may get as much as 1.5″ of rain on Saturday, and another 0.5-1.0″ on Sunday, with more possible if a thundershower can actually find my location for a change. On Monday there should be cloudy skies with only a 20 POP for rain, highs in the mid 40s and lows in the mid 20s. Tuesday should be cloudy once again with a 20 POP for rain , a bit colder with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the low-mid 30s. Partly cloudy and milder on Wednesday, with AM clouds and PM sun, highs up around 60° and lows in the mid 40s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 1420 radar is showing light to moderate rain falling over the region, moving up from the SW in a NE direction, with a break later then more rain in the evening and on Sunday.

As of 1420, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:
