A cloudy, very mild, wet early AM then colder, partly cloudy, drying-out PM update for West Rockville Maryland on Saturday, January 13 2018

Saturday was cloudy, very mild, breezy and wet (0.45″) through most of the early AM, then it started turning colder as the cold front pulled on through with partial clearing and strong winds at times. The very warm Saturday maximum temperature from the VP2 (60.6°) was recorded early at 0044 while the much colder minimum temperature (19.1°) was recorded at 2359. My dew point temperatures were high early but really fell a lot all day, ranging from 60° at 0020 down to 5° at 2353. Relative humidity values were very high in the early AM, but fell in the PM hours (98% – 55%). Barometric values rose a lot all day, from an early morning low of 29.37″ at 0044 (curiously at the same minute as the high temperature for the day occurred) up to 30.53″ at 2351. That daily rise change was over an inch, not common at all. Please refer to the featured image for a graph of the daily display of this barometric pressure rise (gray line), along with the big fall in the dew point (green line) and air temperature (red line).

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444.

I am posting daily to weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time. I contribute daily to cocorahs as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115. Please remember that Weather Underground does not report snow data, and reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge.

I got some recycling out on the way out to my gauge site where I retrieved my frozen rain gauge, swapping it out for an empty one so the frozen one could melt in my apartment warmth.

We have sunny skies now not so early on this Sunday morning and still quite cold, as temperatures have been moving upwards through the teens most of the morning so far. The rest of the Sunday daylight hours will be sunny with highs in the mid-upper 20s, lows in the mid teens Sunday night. Monday should be partly sunny and not quite as cold, with highs in the low 30s and lows in the low-mid 20s. Cloudy on Tuesday with highs in the upper 30s, lows in the low 20s, then partly cloudy and colder again on Wednesday, with highs in the mid 20s and lows in the mid teens, There is a chance for snow showers late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, but kind of iffy right now based on the track of an Alberta clipper sweeping through the Eastern US from points N and W. Thursday should start warming up again, with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the low 20s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 1127 radar is showing a clear screen throughout the Eastern US. Closest precipitation features snow out in part of the Midwest, covering sections of eastern IA, MO, and AR at this time.

As of 1127, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows:

Sunny, less breezy and cold late this morning. The barometric pressure appears to have leveled off a bit earlier this morning at a very high 30.73″ value and is now starting to fall.

Station Relative Location Temp  RH DP   BP      Wind High/Low temp Friday
VP2             Ground            20.6  44  2 30.71F   NA    60.6/19.1

There was 0.45″ of precipitation in the cocorahs gauge on Saturday, for a two-day storm total of 1.35″. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony reported 0.65″ of precipitation on Saturday through midnight but its two-day storm total is an under-reported 0.94″.

January precipitation is 1.45″.
January snowfall is 0.5″.
Snow on ground 0
The seasonal snowfall total is 4.3″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is 1.45″

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded only 0.14″ of precipitation on Saturday. It is now reporting 1.29″ monthly and yearly January 2018 precipitation. I once again have no idea how it can total that much precipitation for the month/year.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 19.1 RH 56% BP 30.53R DP 6. Clear and cold at 2400.

Good morning from the sunny, cold, dry Walrus late on this Sunday morning.
