A cloudy, wet, mild early AM then mostly sunny, somewhat cooler, drying out rest of day update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday October 30 2017

Monday started out cloudy and still wet with light rain between midnight to about 0335. Then gradually most of the morning had lifting and then clearing skies with temps remaining in the 40s overnight through most of the morning but then warmed up into the mid 50s through the afternoon with slowly decreasing winds. Dew points stayed low today, staying in the lows 30s to low 40s. At 0803 we have a fair skies dry and fairly calm. Temperatures are in the low-mid 40s with dew points in the upper 30s. The Monday minimum temperature from the VP2 (42.7°) was recorded at 0143 while the maximum temperature (55.4°) was recorded at 1615. Dew point temps ranged from 43° down to 32°. Relative humidity values predictably dropped today (95% – 44%). Barometric values rose dramatically today, recovering what pressure we lost yesterday, ranging from a low of 29.28″ at 0010 up to a high of 29.93″ at 2338. The really dynamic rapid drop and rise change in pressure I recorded and reported yesterday was echoed by two closeby observer friends, and one meteorologist friend suggested that I may have had a gravity wave pass.

Remember now you can get the VP2 data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444. I am also now on weather underground. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, normally just about in real-time.

It is mostly cloudy out there now, as a cloud deck just moved in. The temperatures are currently in the mid 40s here at my station as of 0803. Halloween Tuesday does look to stay relatively cool but dry under partly sunny skies with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s for reasonably good “Trick or Treat” weather. Wednesday looks to be cloudy and cool but dry with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the low 50s to start off the new month of November. Thursday should be
partly cloudy and dry with highs warming up to the low 70s and lows in the mid 50s. Friday should be partly cloudy and milder, with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid 40s. Saturday looks to be cloudy and cooler, with highs back in the upper 50s.

On the Channel 4 weather website at 0803 the radar shows precipitation has cleared off for the most part, except for some shower activity in western NY and over Lake Erie and some areas in the Adirondack Mountains.

As of 0803 EDT, the data from the VP2 (coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony) and the Lakewood WXBug station are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP     BP    Wind    High/Low temp today
VP2             Ground        44.4  77  38 30.10R   NA       55.4/42.7

There was 0.20″ of rain in the cocorahs gauge on Monday. The VP2 tipping bucket rain gauge under my balcony recorded 0.23″ of rain on Monday, the higher amount probably attributable to a wind swirling effect, excessive moisture dripping down from the closeby pine tree, or timing of the precipitation measurement slightly after midnight Sunday night when it was raining. A max rain rate of only 0.17″/hour was recorded at 0315.

October precipitation is now 2.85″.

Year-to-date precipitation total is now 36.41″.

The Lakewood rain gauge recorded 0.00″ of rain through midnight on Monday. I don’t know what went wrong. I emailed weatherbug support to report these errors from the past few days. I am hoping they will get to the bottom of the problem and the records will be adjusted. If so, I will post an update.

Temp from the VP2 at 2400 was 46.1 RH 75% BP 29.93R DP 37.9. Clear and cool at midnight .

Good morning from the partly cloudy, drying out, comfortable Walrus early on this Tuesday.
