A mostly cloudy, cooler but still humid, and stormy/wet weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Sunday July 23 2017
Sunday started out cloudy before sunrise and quite humid, but cleared up briefly during the AM hours before clouding up by mid-day once again with a couple of periods of showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures stayed below the 90° mark for the first time since July 16. Today’s rain totalled 0.78″ of rain for the day, and a 2 day weekend total of 1.94″. The max rain rate today was less than yesterday’s with only 0.49″/hour at 1645. Thunder was heard at times in the afternoon, but much less than Saturday. Still my NOAA weather radio went off many times all day, much with flash flood warnings in the evening in other parts of the region. Now at 0504 we have cloudy skies with occasional light rain (0.04″ has fallen in the USG VP2 gauge since midnight) with temperatures in the muggy low 70s. The minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (72.2°) was recorded at 0000 while the maximum temperature (86.3°) was recorded at 1451. Dew point temperatures were a bit higher than yesterday, ranging from 78° to71°. Relative humidity values were even higher than yesterday (98% – 69%). Barometric valueswere lower than yesterday, ranging from 29.81″ at 1144 to 29.75″ at 1837.
I woke up in the mid afternoon, in time for a shower before the window for the grocery delivery from 1600-2000. I had a toasted bagel with turkey sausage patties and cream cheese to tide me over, since I ran out of cereal. Also brewed up a pot of coffee. The delivery came at 1830, and I had it all put away by 1930. I started in on dinner thereafter which was chicken and dumplings in the crockpot. It actually turned out that way by accident, as I messed up my initial try of chicken and mushrooms in brown rice. I messed up the rice. I made flour dumplings on the fly after the chicken was cooked. The chicken was really excellent in flavor and the mushrooms came out well. Just the liquid part got messed up, due to the rice and adding too much broth and soup. I caught up a bit on email and FACEBOOK, then I talked with Robin Marty and Ray in the late afternoon/early evening. I worked a bit more on my June data in Excel. I had some cashews after dinner, which I have been out of for a while. I also had some prune and spicy low sodium V8 before and after my salad. Later I continued working on “Weatherquack” items. I also drank some H2O from my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.
We now have cloudy, muggy and occasional light showers with temperatures in the low 70s at 0504. Monday should be a tad hotter again with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures around 90° and lows in the upper 60s and a 20 POP for rain. Cooler temperatures should kick on Tuesday and Wednesday with highs in the delightful low 80s and lows in the mid 60s under sunny skies with a few scattered clouds on Wednesday and little chance of rain. Thursday warms up towards the upper 80s with a 50 POP for showers/storms to return. Lows will also warm up into the low 70s.
On Channel 4 radar at 0505, there are still a few light showers over parts of VA, but the bulk of rain has moved off to the north and east over much of NJ, PA, NY and New England. Flash flood watches in place much of the day are about to expire as we start to dry out.
As of 0505 EDT, the data from the VP2 is now coming from the ground radiation shield about 4 feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Taylor has been replaced with the Radio Shack thermometer for the time being (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high).
