A partly to mostly cloudy, hot, humid, stormy and wet weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Saturday July 22 2017

Saturday started out calm and partly cloudy, but clouded up by mid-day with a couple of periods of thunderstormy, wet and cooling periods during the afternoon (1400-1430) and evening (after 1600) which yielded 1.16″ of rain for the day. The max rain rate was a significant 2.62″/hour at 1409. Thunder was frequent during these wet periods, and my NOAA weather radio went off many times. The temperature rose up to 90° in the early afternoon right before the storms moved in, and the temperature dropped to the low for the day within an hour after the high for the day. Now at 0644e have cloudy skies with temperatures in the muggy lower 70s. The minimum temperature from the VP2 in the shelter on the ground nearby (70.8°) was recorded at 1432 while the maximum temperature (90.1°) was recorded at 1338. Dew point temperatures were about the same as yesterday, ranging from 78° to 68°. Relative humidity values were higher than yesterday (97% – 58%). Barometric values were lower than yesterday, ranging from 29.91″ at 1409 to 29.76″ at 1900.

Remember now you can get the new VP2 location data on Weatherlink. You can access the data through http://www.weatherlink.com/user/walrusman444

I woke up in the mid afternoon, actually sleeping through that first round of storms around 1400. I monitored NOAA weather radio after arising, and managed to catch the later action of less intense rain and storms, though thunder was frequent for a short time in the second round. I caught up a bit on email and FACEBOOK, then I talked with Tracy and Robin in the late afternoon/early evening. I inputted my basic June data into Excel, and also put in a grocery order from Safeway for late Sunday afternoon delivery. I had a nice salad for dinner, along with a few triscuits. I also had some prune and spicy low sodium V8 before and after my salad. Later I continued working on “Weatherquack” items. I hope to see many of you on Weatherquack http://www.weatherquack.com real soon – it is completely free and easy to use once you complete your registration and a short ramping up period. I also drank some H2O from my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have cloudy, muggy but for now dry skies with temperatures in the lower 70s at 0644. Partly to Mostly cloudy on Sunday and a bit cooler, with highs in the upper 80s, which may end our modest 6 day “heat wave” of 90 or higher max temps, and lows in the low 70s and a 60 POP for showers/storms. Monday should be a tad hotter again with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures around 90° and lows in the upper 60s and a 20 POP for rain. Cooler temperatures should kick in the rest of next week, starting with highs on Tuesday in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s under partly cloudy skies and no chance of rain. Wednesday should even be “cooler” with highs in the low 80s under partly cloudy skies and lows in the upper 60s.

On Channel 4 radar at 0647, the immediate DC area is dry for now, but showers lurk just a bit to our west over parts of WV, OH, IN, and KY and heading this way. There are also a few scattered showers/storms over parts of western NY and northern PA, but that area of precipitation is not moving towards our area.

As of 0647 EDT, the data from the VP2 is now coming from the ground radiation shield a few feet off the ground just under and out from the balcony and the Taylor has been replaced with the Radio Shack thermometer for the time being (on the balcony – max temps especially read too high). The data from the Lakewood Country Club WXBug station and the USG VP2 station across the street are still operating and reporting, and are as follows :

Station Relative Location Temp RH DP BP Wind High/Low temp today
VP2 Ground 72.4 98 72 29.76S NA 90.1/70.8

There was 1.16″ of rain recorded today (cocorahs gauge on ground below – in between the US and State Flagpoles out a bit from my balcony)
