A partly cloudy to cloudy, very warm, finally wet/stormy and humid weather update for West Rockville Maryland for Monday June 19 2017

Monday was a partly cloudy to sunny early part of the day, very warm and humid, then very cloudy late afternoon with finally a mid-afternoon thunderstorm that dumped a bit on my station (0.60″) but a lot less than other stations in the area. The thunder was quite loud with mostly numerous cloud to cloud lightning flashes hitting around the 1530-1600 time period (0.82″/hour max rain rate at 1548) and still quite humid. High temperatures rose today with strong sun early into the upper 80s after a still warm early AM min in the low-mid 70s. My newly acquired Taylor Max/Min thermometer maxed out at 94.1°, a bit too warm for an official high temperature.  We had cumulus and cumulonimbus building in quickly in a fast moving line of storms and showers that also yielded some high winds, especially in other spots in the DC area, like the Northwood section of Silver Spring MD where the NWS confirmed an F0 tornado hit at the height of the storm, knocking several trees down on houses, power lines and roadways, closing roads and shutting down power in certain spots. Luckily the power and cable didn’t go out here. Eventually the rain ceased and the temps and then the dew points started dropping off. At about 0550 we have clear skies for the sunrise at 0543 with temperatures in the mid 60s at just about sunrise. The minimum temperature (73.8°) was recorded at 2341 with the maximum temperature (89.2°) was recorded at 1428. Dew point temperatures were just about the same as yesterday, ranging from 75° to 69°. Relative humidity values were just about the same as yesterday’s (88% – 58%).  Barometric values were about the same as than yesterday, ranging from 29.89″ at 2330 to 29.78″ at 1432. Dew points remained in the low-mid 70s most of the afternoon into the early  evening, then have slowly dropped off since to the current mid 60s readings.

I got up in the late afternoon after a restless night of interesting dreams but several interruptions. I had a late bunch of  cereal and my last banana, along with a large cup of coffee. I checked my email but also watched the thunderstorm with great interest and compared storm amounts with Ray and Marty and a few others by email. I then had dinner of a nice big salad and the rest of the leftover chicken enchiladas with a hot sauce light garnish. I also had some prune juice and hot and spicy low sodium V8 before dinner and a few triscuits well after dinner. I worked on some email late earlier this morning and finally finished this Personal Financial Management course I had been taking online. I took out some recyclables on the way out to checking my rain gauge, and picked up my mail on the way back.  I continued to work a bit more on the newly “hatched” Weatherquack weather website which should be fun in the coming months.  I hope some of you out there will join in the fun soon on Weatherquack http://www.weatherquack.com – it is completely free and easy to use once you complete your registration and a short ramping up period.   I also drank a good part of my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have clear, dry skies with temperatures in the mid 60s at sunrise time at 0545.  Tuesday and Wednesday look  to be sunny with scattered clouds at times, dry with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the lower mid 60s. Thursday should heat up again with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 90s, lows around 70° with roughly the same on Friday, but with a slight increase in the POP for rain (20 by number).

On Channel 4 radar at 0614, our Monday showers have moved elsewhere, to the south over parts of SE VA and NC and offshore, and up in New England and upstate NY along the coast and scattered inland also.
