A sunny, seasonably warm, and dry weather update for West Rockville Maryland on Thursday June 1, 2017

Thursday was the start of June and it was a sunny, warm, dry beginning to this first summer month. Also today is the opening of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Sunny skies and seasonally warm temperatures with highs in the upper 70s dominated the daylight hours, with no rain at all. At about 0450 we have clear skies with temperatures in the mid 50s in good cold air drainage areas to the low 60s in elevated locations like my station and the USG station.  The minimum temperature (59.7°) was recorded at 0549 and the maximum temperature (79.0°) was recorded at 1551. Dew point temperatures dropped nicely today, ranging from 62° to 48°. Relative humidity values lowered today some (88% – 35%). Barometric values stayed close again and very similar to yesterday, ranging from 30.03″ at 0925 to 29.94″ at 1827.

I got up around noon so I could take a shower and get ready to run some “errands”. My Uber friend Mike picked me up around 2 and took me to my INR blood test (which came back with a good result of 2.1) and to the bank to deposit a check I got in recently. Then I got back and had some cereal and banana and coffee for a late brunch, then started to warm up the leftover boneless beef chuck roast in the crockpot with the addition of diced rutabaga (fresh- and I did the dicing, which was quite labor-intensive) that took quite a while to soften up in the crockpot, cooking it on both the high and low settings for a few hours in the evening. My friend Rick H came over about 7:30 to see my cocorahs 4 inch rain gauge placement and siting, then drove me up to Staples in Germantown to start shopping for a good computer office chair. We didn’t have much luck, but I finally got some decent gel pens, a pencil, and a wite out pen at least.   I had spicy hot low sodium V8  before dinner.  I finished up the leftover crockpot concoction which frees up a lot of space in the refrigerator. I continued  to  work on the newly “hatched” Weatherquack weather website which should be fun in the coming months. I hope some of you out there will join in the fun – it is completely free and easy to use once you complete your registration and a short ramping up period.  I had some peanuts for snacks at other times during the evening. I also drank a good part of my ginormous water bottle throughout the evening and early morning hours.

We now have clear skies with temperatures in the mid 50s to low 60s at about 0500. Friday looks similar to Thursday with sunny skies/scattered fair weather cumulus at times with highs in the low 80s and lows in the mid 50s. Saturday looks to be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s, then on Sunday partly cloudy with a 20 POP for an isolated shower and warmer with highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s. Monday looks like a 40 POP for showers/storms with partly cloudy skies, highs around 80° and lows in the upper 50s.

According to Channel 4 radar, the radar is clear over the Eastern US, wit only some showery returns noted offshore in the Atlantic off the Carolinas.

Good night from the clear, dry, and slightly cooler Walrus early on this Friday morning. Great to see the font size choices, font type choices and the font color in place and very easy to use. Thanks to Nathan P for adding these options to this blog editor.
